Week 1 Has Come

Well well, the time has come for WPC season 6 to start up ladies and gentlemen. I am hoping everyone can be on their best behavior this season. Lets not blame others for our own mistakes? If your stamp disappears, who's fault is that? if you cant control your players and they get boxed, who's fault is that? Shall I go on or do you get the picture people. I am merely here to prove a point and while I have your temporary attention I might as well take it and run. Please enjoy this season, I am sure the WPC staff will do their best to keep the rules enforced properly and direct this ship away from dangerous waters. The only thing WPC staff requests of you is common sense and a little patience, really, is that to much to ask? Without further ado I present to you my predictions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MIB vs FR
--------------
This match takes place Monday @ 6pm and WHAT a match to start the season! FR was predicted to finish 8th with a popped bubble but this will be a key marker as to where their talent can take them. I still think that with all their key players banned they can not hold up against a supposed powerhouse in MIB. IF Pommy brings the crew he shows up with for PRO and MLP this wont be very close. I can see Petey getting a win and Dwayne might pull a win out but if Petey has no one else up his sleeve this will be a heavily favored romping by MIB.
Outcome: 5-1 MIB

SPS vs DS
-----------
I am excited to see my prediction of SPS ending this season in last turn out wrong! I have been enlightened by Jason as to who he is bringing to the table. Steve aka noob.skillz has decided to play for SPS and it is understandable, they are a upstanding league that always shows with good sportsmanship. With the players Jason has dropped on me I can see SPS squeaking out a win here. Steve is the X-factor, he pushes this team beyond what it was ever capable of before. DS will fight tooth and nail but I cant foresee anything but a tie for them. This match is Tuesday at 7pm and should be neck and neck to the finish line.
Outcome:4-2 SPS

X8B vs MP
-----------
This is another exciting match to watch. MP are WPC 5 season CHAMPS and if they can carry it into this season, everyone watch out! Wednesday @ 6pm is when this show hits the road and hands down will be the most exciting match of the week. MP pulled out a rough win against X8B in PRO recently and I cant help but wonder if that will affect James's mindset. All-in-all if X8B can bring the players they are capable of showing with this match should run close. Chris will match up well vs X8B and this will be yet another nail biter. Lookout for a early lead by X8B only to be chopped down with clutch play by the clinchers of MP.
Outcome:3-3 DRAW

SS vs EPC
----------
This should be a fairly simple prediction. Jack has shocked a few people recently with the team he can put together for interleague play. He is doing a great job of swooping players from various leagues, getting them eligible, and managing them during the game. I will reiterate what I said in my previous post, he simply cant put the players together to pullout anything in this particular interleague. Sorry Jack-o but SS is to deep. SS with the likes of Nigel and company will pullout this game. It breaks my heart to say this but I hear rumbling in the jungle that SS's era is slowly coming to a end. I No longer see you guys finishing easily in the playoffs. Watch out SS, utter doom is right in your rear view mirror. "Objects appear closer then they truly are."
Outcome:5-1 SS
PFN vs SP
----------
Well, what can I say about this match? It will easily be the second most attractive match of the week. Cubby will show with a solid team on Thursday @7pm. He is matching up with SP the runner-up in season 5. Cubby will enjoy this show thoroughly, sitting there watching SP tippy-toe around their balls for 30 minute intervals. This quite possibly could end up the longest match of the week. SP's outcome will be in PFN's hands because of homefield advantage. SP stay with what works for you, don't let PFN get you out of sync. In the end PFN Cubby/Kerry are just to strong with the player calling advantage. Look to see this end game 5.
Outcome:4-2 PFN

MIB, not just a pity team any more.

Hello, I am WPC Freak, I will provide a view on the goings on within WPC and beyond, often utilising the opinions of others in an effort to produce an entertaining read. I am not a predictor, although I may venture into thoughts of a predictive nature in future posts. I am more of an observer, possibly a statistician. Only time will tell how I develop as a productive member of the WPC Sportscene team.

In my first post, I would like to talk about Money in the Bank:

MIB, following in the footsteps of leagues such as PDZ, have frequently been considered one of those sides that everyone expects to beat. Their recent records in other interleagues do not make handsome reading.

  • IPA3 - Won 0 Lost 9 Tied 1
  • GIT - Won 2 Lost 12
  • UIC11 - Won 5 Lost 9 (In the weaker tier of UIC)

Again, like PDZ were, they are often considered to be favorites for the Sportsmanship award before the season had begun, this award has become known as the 'Pity' award in many yahoo pool circles, and its value is mediocre at best.

So why then, are MIB suddenly considered to be candidates for more than just a pity award?

The arrival of Pommy as team captain has caused a stir in the predicting world, with three predictors in PRO considering them worthy of a second place finish behind LPL. Our very own Mr.Knowitall has them down as outright winners in WPC6. MIB in actual fact have two different teams altogether just now. They have their old guard, players playing in earlier weekend interleagues, whereas the later weekday interleagues is completely different under the newly instated Pommy regime. The latter of the two is by far the better & will be the one spoke about here at WPC. Having had a peek at a recent MLP match involving Pommy's MIB squad, the dangers this squad could possess are there to see even before a match has been played. Boasting players such as Si, Joey, Conor, Mike and of course Pommy himself. Now that isn't to say that these players are going to be taking part in WPC, but i don't see why they wouldn't. If these guys show up on a regular basis & play to their full potential, then its easy to see why Mr.KnowItAll has them as #1. You can see where the problems are though with that last sentence, will they show up on a regular basis?, will they care enough to fully concentrate & play to their best abilities?, Most of these players haven't played much recently, around the interleague scene at least. These are some questions that cant be answered, but will find out over the course of the season. My thoughts?.. I believe that they will be competitive, but they are not the front-runners for me. In my opinion X8B is the standout teams, but it promises to be a competitive season, with ten teams who could all beat everyone else on their day, and it will be a short season, with teams only playing each other once, so anyone caught napping and slow out of the blocks will be left behind quickly.

I spoke to Richard, the Head Admin of MIB to check on his views. He is pleased to have "pulled up a strong line up from the ranks, [with] quite a few new faces that are really good players" but their is still a place for his old guard. He feels strongly that these newcomers are not merely mercenaries who are purely here for interleague matches, but they are "an active part of MIB".

I would not be disappointed if MIB were to go on and fulfil the promise that has been suggested they can achieve, and maybe they can buck an interleague trend, and win the WPC6 title, as well as the so-called 'Pity' award, in the same season.
