Week 14 Update

Hey people, just thought I should do a quick Week 14 update while Jason’s away. There are only three matches this week (as far as I know), the first of which I reffed tonight. I wrote a little match report but it was while I was going along so excuse how short it is.

Tuesday, 7pm, LPL @ PDZ, Room: Straight Into Darkness, Referee: Ogges

lpl_l3alvla vs. pdz_dragon_baby02

In what was a pretty poor, to-and-fro game, in which a lot of shots were missed, LPL emerged the 1-0 leaders after l3alvla held his nerve to sink the final 2 stripes and 8 ball.

lpl_mile99ium vs. pdz_bud6745

The second game was a bit better, even if Bud didn’t play much of a part in it. Once Javier got going it looked like there was no stopping him until he finished too close to his last ball to be able to cut it in. Not to worry though, he took his time and weighted up a magnificent karam shot to knock his ball off of one of Bud’s to sink it in the bottom right pocket and leave himself good position on the 8 too. 2-0 LPL.

lpl_lll_n0_lll vs. pdz_mystical13

N0 came out all guns blazing in this game, trying to pot as many as he could with each visit. Mystical sat back and let him do his thing and waited for her chance at the run. When the time came she strung the finish together very nicely until the penultimate shot – it was a simple, straight shot and she just over-hit it and followed through to scratch. N0 made his last stripe and the 8 to take LPL 3-0 up.

lpl_tino_nica vs. pdz_lxl_hells_dragon_lxl

I missed most of this game, but from what I seen Tino had the game pretty much wrapped up but found himself stuck near the jaws of the middle pocket. I assume it was a no-liner and that’s what brought him to miss the otherwise relatively easy run and hand the game back to Hell. Is the fight-back on the cards? 3-1 LPL.

lpl_punisher_45 vs. pdz_sicc_ace_with_extreme_bass

Punisher had two balls off the table and Sicc none before he started his attempt at the run. After sinking 3 balls he’d narrowly miss the orange solid to the bottom right to give the initiative back to Punisher. With the table now fairly open he removed any complication by laying a good snooker to gain BIH, and clinched the match nicely, 4-1 to LPL.

lpl_optimus.price_xl vs. pdz_man_of_1000_positions

Didn’t pay too much attention here since the match was all over; Man started off running the table when he was never going to be finishing it. Optimus in turn had the game at his peril and waited to be presented with the right chance. He ended the match with a sensible run-out and sealed the 5-1 victory for LPL.

As for tomorrow night’s games, I’ll just write a quick prediction underneath the pair of them.

Wednesday, 6pm, LS @ MP, Room: Advanced Lounge 2, Referee: Lisa

A tough game to call this, both teams can be very good on their day, but equally can perform very poorly if things don’t go their way. LS seem to have held it together pretty well since I seen them crash to HT at the beginning of the season, but MP will want to bounce back from the 6-1 drubbing they received earlier this week in PLC at the hands of PFN. If I go with the form I choose LS to win, perhaps even comfortably, but I fancy a draw here for some reason. 3-3.

Wednesday, 7pm, SP @ X8B, Room: Alive, Referee: Bev

This is another closely matched pair of teams to choose from. SP have a group of well experienced players who are no stranger to the interleague scene, whereas X8B are relatively newer, but have been performing consistently well this season in WPC. I can’t really say with any certainty who I think will win here, but I’m gonna go ahead and just choose SP to take it home 4-2.

Ok, so there’s week 14 in rather shoddy, quick as you like write-up. If I catch any of tomorrow night’s games I might post another short match report. Otherwise, it's time to look forward to all-star week and play-off season. Thanks for reading. In a bit. Ogges.
