Thanks For Season 3, Bring On Season 4

Hi again all, Jason’s been getting on at me to do an end of season post, even though he’s done one already, but here we are. I was thinking I’ll just end up writing a whole post on thanking the PFN players for their tremendous efforts in bringing home the WPC World Cup (at the third time of asking). However, let’s face it, all they done was win a couple of Yahoo! Pool games, which isn’t exactly hard is it? I deserve all the credit and without my tactical mastery they’d have been nowhere!

But back to reality, and perhaps something we do need to face up to is the fact that this season wasn’t the most organised, and certainly could have been a lot better. With the growing trend of leagues dissolving, and our difficulties in up-keeping the homepage this season, some teams were struggling to make matches on a regular basis, and it certainly couldn’t be blamed entirely on them. Despite some of these ‘smaller’ teams dropping out along the way, WPC remained somewhat competitive, with PFN, X8B, HT and LS all having particularly impressive runs during the regular season.

With dangerous leagues such as SS, HT and LS competing in the Western Division I was quietly pleased to learn I was selected as captain and would be able to over-see the Eastern team in the All-Star event, knowing that victory could mean PFN having home-advantage should we reach the World Cup against one of the aforementioned sides. It was good fun having the privilege of captaining my old team-mate Pas again; he and I would go onto secure it for the Eastern Division, with other big wins coming from Player_Dude and l2eal_ownage in a 7-5 victory.

The play-offs certainly proved a tougher proposition for PFN than regular-season, and after the first round it looked in every one of our matches like it was gonna go to the game 7 decider at some point. LPL, SP and LS all certainly proved stern opposition but at the end of the day with a gang of fugitive serial rapists including Lewis, Jamie, Andy, Roger and Pita to throw in when a win is needed followed by a support cast of minor sex offenders (such as myself, Kerry and Cubby) I was always fancying our chances and I can offer nothing but my condolences to the families of all the victims. In seriousness though, each play-off match was a massive test and to come through all the way unscaved was a massive effort from my team - and home advantage in the finals was certainly a help.

As for next season, Jason looks to have put together an admin team that will be more active and should be able to keep things ticking over a little better I hope. One thing I’m certainly confident about is the page being updated with a tad more regularity :p With the addition of new leagues like TPL and UO to combine with the return of MP I’d say Season 4 promises to be the best and most competitive of WPC yet. I’ll take this chance to remind everyone to sign up to the new myleague website, since Kev hasn’t been around to pass it on, that’s http://www.myleague.com/wpc2 , and to thank everyone who contributed to Season 3. Kick-off tournament for next season is May 1st, I look forward to seeing everyone there. Thanks for reading. In a bit. Ogges.
