SP_l_ketan_l vs. LS_aiming_skillz - Match one and Ketan pretty much toyed with Aiming for the best part of this game, allowing Aiming to make most of his striped balls, knowing he wouldn’t be able to finish the run. Ketan would give Aiming a slight chance at a bank, after refusing the run with BIH. He chose to make Aiming’s second last stripe in a slightly over-cautious ploy to make his eventual run even easier for himself. Aiming couldn’t make the bank though and Ketan would then go on to mess up his run on the penultimate solid giving away BIH. Aiming then unforgivably missed a simple 8 (and a 2 ball run-out starting with BIH) to give Ketan back the advantage. He played a poor positional shot to leave a thin cut into the middle on his last solid and inevitably got yahooed. Aiming wouldn’t pass up a second chance to make the 8, and it was LS who took the first rack of WPC Season 4, 1-0.
SP_newb.on_loose vs. LS_e.mmitt - I missed the beginning of match two but from what I see it’s been another cautious start and Emmitt is now going to try for the run against Aaron. 3 stripes left, but the red one is tied up. He makes his orange with top spin but can’t quite dislodge the red and leaves himself without a shot. He tried banking the red off of multiple rails but he was never going to be able to get enough purchase on it to reach the pocket. Aaron is now clearly in command with 6 balls left to Emmit’s 2, and the 8 ball tied up; with the right tactics he should have the game sewn up. He gains BIH but tries an insanely attacking bank to unlock the rack for himself but catches Emmitt’s green on it’s way to the pocket, in-turn freeing it leaving the rack open for his opponent. It took a good shot from red to green and Emmitt played it well, but left himself pretty straight on the green. He had to screw back with the slightest trace of bottom spin to avoid the scratch knock the 8 into a potable area - and what d’ya know? It couldn’t have worked out better as the 8 lands right over the bottom middle pocket. 2-0 LS.
SP_l3addassplaya vs. LS_lord_suhrim - Match three, Badass would go for the run early on getting all the way to his last stripe before he ran out of position. A couple of shots later and Lord looks like he has things wrapped up, with all his balls in potable positions and seemingly no obstacles in his way. He ran out of position though, leaving himself touching his second last solid with no way of making it. He tried to cue-bank his other ball, and came quite close, but left Badass in with the easy finish. He wouldn’t falter and gave SP a way back into the match at 1-2.
SP_l31 vs. LS_tonzmaniac - B1 began match four by making one solid and sparking off a tactical exchange. He took no time in making a couple of Tonz’s stripes without giving away BIH, forcing him to repay the favour by knocking down one of B1’s solids. This left it level at 5 balls left a-piece. After B1 made another of Tonz’s stripes, Tonz would realise B1 was decently placed for a run on his next shot, so would try to not give him the chance, and manufacture a run of his own. He came up short with 2 stripes remaining and left the game at B1’s mercy. A well executed 6-ball run-out including a fairly nice long-ranged green before the 8 would put SP back on level terms, 2-2.
SP_bostonbruins1 vs. LS_im_just_jeremy Match five started with Jeremy going for a tough run that he couldn’t finish, leaving himself in a tough situation. Pete would work the BIH out of him and immediately went to work at a fairly difficult run - the yellow being slightly awkwardly positioned was his biggest problem. He got onto it nicely and having passed his biggest test of making the yellow and being able to get onto his final solid, Pete would leave himself far too close to the 8, making the pot near impossible to judge. He went for the tricky cut and left Jeremy with a pretty easy 5-ball run. He plays it well and puts LS back in the lead. 3-2.
SP_p.ascal vs. LS_ls_tiffany_ls - Match six would appear to be a mismatch with Jason calling 1300 rating and -9 stricken Tiffany to play the seasoned veteran Pascal in a pressure game, but nonetheless he’d have to get the job done. He started off at the run and developed it nicely, leaving himself a relatively good position to finish it, but under-powered the shot when making his third last solid. He tried the cue bank and came close, but left Tiffany with the advantage in the match. She played a risky snooker, knowing Pas’ green was hanging near the top left pocket. A good try from Pas, but the game was now in Tiffany’s hands. Trying to put Pas back under pressure with another snooker Tiffany unintentionally went into the bottom right jaws and scratched. Pas doesn’t pass up chances like that, especially with BIH, and drained the 3 balls with ease to give SP a probably deserved draw. 3-3.
Ok well there’s my quick write-up on the first WPC match of Season 4. It was written as the match went along so any mistakes can surely be forgiven :p Anyways, the match itself went off without a hitch and both teams played reasonably well showing they’re easily capable of challenging for play-off berths again at the end of the season. GGs all and GLIR. Thanks for reading. In a bit. Ogges.
